Prospective Adoptive Parents
The laws impacting how a prospective adoptive parents locates a birth parent vary from state to state. Some jurisdictions do not allow private adoptions, others restrict living expenses, have longer revocation periods, prohibit advertising and have other legal restrictions.
Many families contact our firm when they start exploring adoption and specifically before they begin the adoption evaluation (home study process) to become educated about the process and the pitfalls.
Since many birth families and prospective adoptive parents locate one another through the Internet or in another state, it is important to have your own attorney to ensure that all legal requirements are met so that you may proceed with an adoption plan and finalize your adoption as soon as possible.
Texas prohibits adoption facilitation (“matching”) so we will not and cannot locate a birth family for you. However, we can serve as your guide and make recommendations on advertising and networking strategies and refer you to reputable attorneys in other states. We can also represent you here in Texas to finalize the adoption here.
